Madi’s Progress

1 Thought

I’m sorry I am behind in updating.  I will update soon with our 33 week progress-

Thankfully we only had one appointment this week, we had our BPP ultrasound to check up on Miss Madilyn and met with the Dr afterwards. We went for our appointment at 11am and unfortunately they were running behind by about 45 minutes so we had to rush and find someone to pick up Hudson from preschool and make sure we had all that taken care of. Thank the Lord; He has blessed us with some of the best friends and church family! All our friends have made multiple offers to help us out in whatever we need as well as those at our church and it has really been a blessing in times like this! So we made a phone call and Hudson couldn’t have been happier because he was able to play with his buddy Tyler. So we finally made it back for our appointment, and like always Madi was going crazy moving around! The ultrasound tech even laughed and just watched her move for a while since she was going so crazy. She did great and received all her “points” that she needed this week. It had been 4 weeks since they last did her measurements so they did that as well and said she is measuring in the 70 percentile and weighs around 5lbs 1oz right now. I think that sounds pretty big for 32 weeks so we will see how much she grows in the next few weeks! She continues to look perfectly healthy and happy on the ultrasounds and gives us some sort of performance every week! The ultrasound tech also measured my fluid level and she did it twice to make sure she could get the most accurate measurement. The first time she got 33cm and the second she got 31cm. I have noticed when I tell people about my fluid they seem to think that is great and normal since it coincides with my gestational week. However, it really doesn’t have anything to do with what week I am. They normally measure your fundal height which is done on the outside of your stomach with a tape measure and that should coincide with how many weeks pregnant you are. What they measure with me every week is how much amniotic fluid is inside my uterus. I believe when I researched it the normal range is anywhere from 14cm-25cm. So anything over 25cm is considered high. It normally would start decreasing the closer you get to delivery as well, not going up. So what that means for us is my uterus is stretched right now past the size it should have been if I made it to full term! When I was 28 weeks pregnant I was measuring 34 weeks pregnant. Needless to say, I am getting pretty uncomfortable and my stomach is growing like crazy. Every elderly person I know has asked me if I am ready to pop, if I got this large with Hudson, am I sure there is only one etc J

On a brighter note though, after we waited for 45 minutes for our appointment, we had a very sweet ultrasound tech and she even brought us a gift card since we had to wait. Oh course I was sensible and picked the Bojangles gift card so I could enjoy some yummy biscuits and gravy! But it just goes to show, there is no need to get upset over something we couldn’t control, and I like to think of it as the Lord sending a little blessing our way for making sure we still honored him in our actions that day! We have another ultrasound next week, and a dr follow up appointment. We should be able to schedule our c-section date soon, as they won’t let you schedule it more than a few weeks out and they still seem to want me to make it to 39 weeks. It seems like it is so long until all this will be over and she will be here, but in reality the weeks will most likely fly by. We are still trusting the Lord to heal her and until he gives a reason to do otherwise we will continue to have faith He will do that! Even if He chooses not to heal her, we know that all we will need will be Him to get us through whatever trial we may face when she is here. We are more than excited to finally meet this sweet little girl and see what the Lord has in store for our family in the next few months! Thank you for your continued prayer and concerns, the Lord really has blessed us with the BEST friends and family in the world!

Our appointment with the surgeons

2 Thoughts

Well, we had a week full of appointments this week! Starting Tuesday morning with our Fetal MRI; It was a lot different than I expected and I was definitely glad when it was over! They said they had gotten the shots they needed, although I had to stay a little extra because she started to move around and it took them a while to get the last shot. We had went into the appointment on Tuesday expecting to know some results before we left that day, and then we found out it would be Wednesday before we would know the results. Wednesday we had our first appointment at 11am which was our bpp ultrasound that we have weekly. Madi got all of her points in about 5 minutes, she was moving all around (like always) and did her breathing motions. She even let us see her face and was opening and closing her mouth, practicing talking I’m sure. They checked my fluid level and it was at 30cm so it is considered moderate polyhydramnios. I am just supposed to take it easy and try and prevent pre-term labor, but I haven’t shown any signs of that, so Praise the Lord! We then had our appointment with the DR, which went well too!

After that it was our last appointment with the pediatric surgeon. Thankfully we weren’t too nervous going in to it! I had prayed that the Lord would give me strength for whatever answer we got. Our meeting went well! Unfortunately though, the MRI was “inconclusive.” It was somewhat disappointing because the MRI is supposed to be the most accurate way to confirm diagnosis. What they look for is the “pouch sign” that would be where her esophagus ends and doesn’t connect to her stomach. However, the report stated that they saw some dilation in some shots, but could have possibly seen the whole esophagus in other shots. Very confusing! In light of those results though, we are choosing to see this as a blessing. While we had prayed that we would get the answer our heart’s desired, that she does not have this condition, we are going to Praise the Lord that we also didn’t get the 100% confirmation that she does have it. If anything that just gives us more room to have faith and trust the Lord to heal her before she is born! Of course our appointments carried on with the worst case scenario in mind and we have everything semi planned out for her arrival. They really can’t make too many decisions until she is born and they do some tests to evaluate how severe her case is.

We want to thank all of you who have kept us in your prayers, we can definitely feel them, and are so thankful that we have you all to help us through this. Through everything though the Lord has continued to be faithful to His promises and has not left our sides! He has shown us His goodness in ways we couldn’t have imagined. We have been able to openly talk about the Lord and express to some of our medical team the faith we have that he will work a miracle. If he chooses not to work the miracle in the way we see fit, we will praise Him still the same, because we are so undeserving of the blessings he gives us daily.

Like the Bible says in Jeremiah 1:5, the Lord knew us before he formed us in the womb, and no doubt He has a very special plan for Madi. We can’t wait to see how the Lord will use this situation and how He will get the glory for everything that happens!

What’s happening with Madi

3 Thoughts

Let me start off by saying God is good all the time and we trust Him in all things.  We found out roughly two weeks ago this past Friday that the doctors think our little Madi has a condition called esophageal atresia.  That means they think her esophagus hasn’t developed and connected to her stomach.  There is a lot we still don’t know and some things we won’t know until she is born.

What we do know is that if they are correct she will most likely need surgery right after birth.  The time and date of the surgery will all depend on where the esophagus stopped developing.  If it is a short gap between the stomach and esophagus the surgery will most likely be right after birth.  If it is a long gap it could be weeks or months depending on the advice of the surgeons and what kind of growth they see in Madi.

A condition that goes a long with this is polyhydramnios which means Megan has more amniotic fluid than she would normally have at 31 weeks.  When she went for an ultrasound at 29 weeks she had 26 centimeters, at 30 weeks she measured at 29 centimeters and last week at 31 weeks she measured 31 centimeters.  Needless to say it is getting somewhat uncomfortable for her.  Madi although seems to be enjoying it and doing a lot of water aerobics and swimming (from what Megan says even some kickboxing).

The good – there is typically other conditions on Madi’s part that normally go along with EA but all the tests the doctors have done have shown negative.  We got the results back this week on our chromosomal test and it was negative for any chromosomal issues.  She has also passed her ultrasound tests (BPP) each week (we have had two so far)  she has gotten an 8 out of 8.

We want to ask each of you to pray for our little girl whom we love so much already.  We also want you to know that our Saviour has been so sweet to us and we have trusted Him each step of the way.  Our prayer has been from day 1 is that Madi has no conditions and is as healthy as possible.  We are trusting in Jesus that that will be the case.  If it is we will give Him all the glory and if not we want to assure you that we will love her just as much and that God will be the one to get us through it.

Please keep Madi and Megan in your prayers especially this Tuesday we go for an MRI which will hopefully be more definitive and guide us in our next steps.  I will update then with the results.
